Obituary

Donald J. Mellinger, 80, of Burlington, died at 5:26 PM Monday, March 2, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

Born May 21, 1939, in Burlington, he was the son of Arthur C. and Florence L. Frank Mellinger. On February 6, 1960, he married Sharon K. Lehman in Burlington.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a Corporal.

Don worked for McKesson Drug. Co. for 32 years and also was the co-owner and operator of a small lawn care service with his wife for 33 years.

He was a founding member of the River City Corvette Club. He enjoyed driving nice cars, especially Corvettes, and was privileged to own 21 of them over the years. He also enjoyed boating, water skiing with family and friends, gardening and keeping a nice yard. He loved nature and animals. Don loved fast cars, fast boats, but not fast women.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sharon of Burlington; one sister, Maureen Culp of Mineola, TX; several nieces and nephews and one special nephew, Michael Mellinger, who was raised as a brother to Don; special friends, Bill & Marjie and family; and many other special friends too numerous to list.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Cecil, Russell and Wesley Mellinger, and his two favorite dogs, German schnauzer, Fritz and Scottish terrier, Jodi.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Inurnment will be held at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
