Obituary
Lowell D. John, 93, of Burlington, died at 8:00 pm Monday, May 31, 2021, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.
Born November 29, 1927, in Davis County, IA he was the son of Wardie and Ottie Swaim John. On February 8, 1952, he married Nellie Annabelle Billhymer in Burlington, Iowa. She later passed on August 19, 2010.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in the Southwest Pacific from November 29, 1945 until November 6, 1947.
He came to Burlington in 1952 where he got a job at J.I. Case. He worked there for 35 years before retiring as a supervisor. He enjoyed traveling in his camper, and helping his son Philip with motorcycle and car racing. He liked going to sprint car races with his brother-in-law Cully Cline. He always cherished his time with his grandson, Matt.
Survivors include son, Philip (Becky) John of Burlington; grandson, Matthew John of Burlington; sister, Betty Fox of Ft Myers, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Oddis, Roscoe, Melvin, Lyle, and Wayne John, and two sisters Beulah Summers, and Beatrice Niles.
The family to receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, at Prugh's Chapel downtown.
The funeral service for Mr. John will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Prugh's Chapel downtown with Pastor Melisa Bracht-Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the basement of First United Methodist Church following the burial.
