Jessie Lawoance Butler, 56, of Burlington, passed away at 3:10 PM Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born September 20, 1965, in Chicago, IL, he was the son of Arthur and Faye Adams-Butler. For over 13 years, he has been in a loving and committed relationship with Linda Miller.
He was a graduate of Whitney M. Young Magnet High School in Chicago.
He worked for Tyson Foods in Columbus Junction for over 14 years.
Jessie was of Baptist faith. He was funny, giving, and selfless man who was devoted to his family. He cherished his three grandsons and made each one feel special. As a child he enjoyed going on nature walks every Sunday with his brother and father, a tradition he continued with his grandsons. He enjoyed a wide variety of sports, cheering for the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bulls, and the LSU football team. Jessie enjoyed reading, loved listening to music, especially blues and spiritual. He will forever be remembered for his great sense of humor and love for his family and friends.
Survivors include father, Arthur (Faye Desselle) Butler of Chicago, IL; significant other, Linda Miller of Burlington; one step-daughter, Tamika (Victor) Tate of Burlington; three grandsons, Taivon and Kamron Tate, and Marqus Mitchell all of Burlington; one sister, Tressie (Clarence) James of Sacramento, CA; nephew, Robert Sanders of Sacramento, CA; two step-sisters, Keresa Desselle of Chicago, IL, and LaDonna Desselle of Chicago, IL, and many extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Fay Adams-Butler, one brother, Kelvin Butler, and one step-brother, Lee Desselle.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Friday, January 7, 2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Jessie Butler will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 7, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Ronnie Braggs officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for his grandkids.
