Obituary
Karen Elizabeth Bangert, 80, of Burlington, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
She was born Oct. 6, 1939, in Keokuk, the daughter of Leonard and Elizabeth Klepfer Reeder.
Karen graduated from Keokuk High School with the class of 1958.
On Sept. 18, 1960, she was united in marriage with Richard Bangert in Keokuk, and they celebrated 58 years of life together. He preceded her in death on March 24, 2019.
She, along with her husband Richard, owned and operated Bangert Computer Systems, in Burlington.
She was very active in the community and enjoyed socializing with others. She had been a member of the P.E.O., quilting club, bridge club, Questers and the garden club. She loved to garden and received her Master Gardener's certification. She and her husband had several large "pick-your-own" strawberry patches in Burlington and the surrounding area for 15 years. Karen was a skilled seamstress and made beautiful quilts that her family will treasure. One of her favorite pastimes was playing bridge. She enjoyed collecting dolls and glassware among other things. She loved to travel and over the years many memorable trips were taken, including train rides to the west and spring breaks with the family. Karen was very close to her family and cherished the time she spent with them.
She is survived by three children, Kurt (Theresa) Bangert of Kansas City, Mo., Kathleen (Brett) Hodson of St. Louis, and Kevin Bangert of Burlington; five grandchildren, Justine, Reid, and Virginia Bangert, and Izabel and Hugh Hodson; one brother, Paul (Sarah) Reeder of Cincinnati; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the First United Methodist Church, 421 Washington St. in Burlington, with the Rev. Melisa Bracht-Wagner officiating. Burial will be in the Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.
Visitation for family and friends will be prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, at the church.
