Obituary
Carla Mae Lumberg, 83, of Burlington, died at 10:30 PM Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at the Halcyon House in Washington, IA.
Born December 7, 1937, in Des Moines, IA, she was the daughter of Carl and Dorothy Marie (Andre) Smothers. On March 23, 1957, she married Robert Lumberg in Galesburg IL. He later passed June 13, 2004.
She completed her lower education at Huron School in rural Burlington, and went on to graduate from SCC with her LPN in nursing in May of 1991.
Carla worked for HyVee and General Electric and was a LPN for Klein's for many years.
Carla was high spirited and high energy, earning the nickname from Bob, the Energizer Bunny. She played piano for many years, even playing at her children's schools. She was a homemaker for many years, and loved being a mother. She was very creative, and was always able to tackle any project, without fear. Carla was a great cook, with some of her specialties being Chicken and Noodles and Meatloaf. She was also a great seamstress, tackling many big jobs, one of her first being her own couch. She made many things over the years, including wedding dresses, and wedding cakes when they were needed. She was totally selfless, and loved doing things for people. This was exemplified by her work as an LPN, and even after her retirement, her countless hours as a volunteer for Great River Hospice. After Bob's death, she was able to form several strong female friendships that helped her get through tough times, and she enjoyed all the time she was able to spend with them. Most of all, she loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. Family meant the world to her, and all the kids knew Carla's door was always open, coffee pot was always on, and a homemade treat was always warm and ready.
Survivors include two sons, Scott (Tori) Lumberg of Washington, IA, and David Lumberg of Iowa City IA; two daughters, Carlene Daley of Coralville, IA, and Gail Lumberg of Winfield, IA; three granddaughters, Brodie Daley of Davenport, IA, Bryton (Gavin) Parker of East Peoria, IL, and Meredith Lumberg of Iowa City, IA; three great-grandchildren, Brianna Feuerbach of Manchester, IA, Jaeden Davis of Marion, IA, and Natalie Parker of East Peoria, IL; one great-great-granddaughter, Karli Mae Hegtvedt; and many extended family and friends.
Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents.
There will be a private family graveside at Aspen Grove at a later date.
