Obituary
Bernard "Chuck" Carter Jr., 69, of Davenport, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at the Genesis Medical Center East in Davenport.
Born September 27, 1950, in Saint Louis, MO, he was the son of Bernard and Deretha Rankin Carter. On September 28, 2001, he married Charita Darnell in Burlington. She unfortunaly passed on June 17, 2012. He later met Melissa Hobbs Miller in 2015. They married May 4, 2019 in Burlington.
Bernard worked at N.I.S. and made refrigerator parts for Amana.
Bernard's faith was very important to him. He loved to attend church and was a member of Union Baptist Full Gospel Fellowship. He enjoyed reading his Bible, watching CNN, playing games on his phone, but most of all, spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Luna.
Survivors include his wife, Melissa of Davenport; eight children: Charles Drummer of Flint, MI, Barron Darnell of Moline, IL, Nichole (John) Nichols of St. Louis, MO, Rodney (Jamie) Darnell of Carbon Cliff, IL, Zane Darnell of Danville, Rashad Carter of Burlington, and Shamyra Carter of Burlington; two step-children: Garett Miller and Clinton Griffis; 38 grandchlidren and 9 great-grandchildren; one brother: Butch Carter of Burlington; two sisters, Josephine Gipson of Burlington, and Neregin (Marvin) Cummings of Fairfield, AZ; and several nieces and nephews;.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tamela Franks, one brother, Johnny Jeffries one sister, Ann Mae Pickens and his parents.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Bethany Lutheran Church.
The funeral service for Mr. Carter will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at Bethany Lutheran Church with Reverend Lawrence L. Manson officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church following the burial.
