Obituary
David Kenneth Milton, 75, of Burlington died Friday, December 20, 2019 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born April 5, 1944 in Burlington, Iowa he was the son of Kenneth Virgil and Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Brown) Milton. He married Patricia "Pat" Ann Shepperd on May 27, 1967 in Burlington.
He was a 1962 graduate from Burlington High School.
While in high school he worked at Burlington Bowl as the night mechanic on the automatic pin setters. After graduation he worked for W. A. Schaeffer Pen Co. as an automatic screw machine operator. He then joined the Navy in September 1963 in Des Moines, Iowa.
He served in Vietnam as a diesel engine mechanic and operator. He was discharged in September 1969 as an E5.
David joined the Burlington Fire Department in September of 1969. While on the fire department he ran and owned Cycle World. He was Past President of Local Firefighter Union #306. After his retirement from the fire department he worked at Billups Tire and Wheel as service manager. He was past commander of VFW #9162 and a member of VietNow, Vintage Rodder, Old Geezers Rodder Club, Iowa Street Rod Association and Goodguys.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
He was an artist and enjoyed restoring and building old cars and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife Patricia "Pat" Milton of Burlington; two daughters Robin Milton and Melissa Milton both of Burlington; one granddaughter Kandace Durbin of Burlington; two great grandchildren Adrian Cable and Alayna Cable of Burlington; sister-in-law Pat Milton of Marion, Illinois and nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother William Milton.
Family visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 23rd at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Graveside service and interment will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
