Barbara Ann Turk, 89, of West Burlington, died Sunday, May 8, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington, Iowa.
Born February 6, 1933, in Adel, Iowa, she was the daughter of John and Fern (Mallory) Sedars. She married Roger Duane Turk on June 25, 1951, in Ridgeway, Missouri. He died May 10, 1995.
Barbara was one of the first ladies to work at J.I.Case. In addition to that she worked at Davidson Oil along with her husband, owned her own gift shop, was a homemaker and worked as a waitress at the old Howard Johnson hotel, Wal-Mart, Montgomery Ward and served as a realtor, and was a lector and leader for WW.
She was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church.
Barbara was an avid collector of dolls, tins and birdhouses. She enjoyed dancing, reading, completing the daily newspaper crossword puzzle, and watching college basketball. She was a Chicago Cubs fan but would tolerate the St. Louis Cardinals. She wintered in Texas for over 35 years and loved her time spent with her girls and grandkids. She was known for her wisdom sayings, “No news is good news” and “I may not approve, but I try to understand”.
She is survived by her three daughters; Judy (Carl) Peterson of Burlington, Rajeanna Stanbary (Terry Henry) of West Burlington, Mallory (Tom) Eagen of West Burlington; seven grandsons; 13 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild due in December and her companion Raymond Graskemper of West Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jim Sedar and sister Patricia Richards.
The funeral service for Mrs. Turk will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 13th at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Dean Graber will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service.
