Obituary

Victoria - Harriet "Hattie" Wootten of Victoria Minnesota (formerly Burlington Iowa) passed away on October 30, 2021 at Methodist Hospital in St Louis Park MN with her daughter Martha by her side. Signing off on a life well lived on her own terms and in charge to the very end.

Born in Burlington in 1926 the 6th child of Thomas and Meta Meck. She graduated high school early and on the very next day started work at the railroad shops in West Burlington as a secretary where she met the love of her life Jim "JW" Wootten. She later retired from Southeastern Community College.

Hattie loved her family and kept us all in line! Some of her favorites things included sharing treats and her empty yogurt container w Katy, going out to eat with JW, running errands and shopping with her daughters, planting and tending to her rose bushes, playing the lottery, pull tabs at the legion on birthdays, playing board games and jacks with William and Molly, helping at His House, Minnesota Twins baseball, St Luke's church family, "Must see TV" Rachel Maddow @MSNBC and The View, reading The Hawkeye on her iPad to see who died, riding in the golf cart with Jim and Molly, sharing family stories on zoom calls with her nieces and nephews and keeping in touch with family and friends by phone, text and cards.

We will especially miss her feistiness, "Ethel's" sugar cookies, special beef gravy, texts from her iPhone with "breaking news" all day, every day, and reminding us to put out the flag on each holiday. We love you Hattie!

Hattie is survived by 2 daughters Cindy Wootten and Martha Brannon, and son-in-law Jim Brannon all of Victoria MN. Hattie relished her role as Grandma "G Hattie" to Molly Brannon of Victoria MN and William Brannon of Denver CO. Her golden retriever (and her best buddy) Katy. And her nieces Janet and Patty and nephews Mike, Chris, Tom, Doug and Bill.

She was proceeded in death by her husband "JW" of 55 years, her siblings Helen, Maybelle, Ruth, Tom and Billy. Her parents and niece Carolyn.

A gathering of family and friends is planned for the spring in Burlington Iowa.
