Obituary

Bonny Jean Augsburger, 87, of West Burlington died Friday, March 31, 2023 at Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

Born June 5, 1935 in Burlington, she was the daughter of George and Rose (Wills) Cumpton. She married James “Jim” Augsburger November 28th at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. He died December 11, 2004. She was of the Protestant Faith.

Bonny graduated from Burlington High School. She began her career as an operator for Northwestern Bell. She was an owner/operator assisting her husband with Jim’s Shoe Box and Neff’s Shoe Store for eighteen years and Granny’s Bake Shop for five years. Bonny also worked in the hotel/motel business. She was employed as a client specialist with F & M Bank and Trust until her retirement June 6, 2000.

Bonny enjoyed fishing, boating and going to the cabin in Minnesota. She was a caregiver for her family and she loved kids.

Survivors include her brother-in-law Floyd “Tode” John of Burlington and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim; two sisters Dorothy John and Betty Erickson and brother George Cumpton.

The funeral service for Bonny will be 1:30 pm, Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Lunning Chapel with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

A memorial to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital has been established.
