Obituary
James "Jim" Woodward Gray, 83, of Burlington, died at 11:41 AM Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at his home.
Born September 3, 1935, in Burlington, he was the son of James P. and Irene Woodward Gray. On April 1, 1955, he married Maureen Elizabeth Hulse in Burlington, Iowa. She passed on May 2, 1994.
Jim graduated from Burlington High School.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran
Jim worked for Murray Iron Works as a draftsman for many years before going into business with his nephew, Kory Fillmore, doing construction. Jim worked as a carpenter until his retirement.
He was a member of the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Burlington Aerie 150 and a very active member of the Boy Scouts of America. He served as Scout Master and President for many years for the Camp Eastman Development Association. Jim volunteered many hours at Camp Eastman making improvements, mowing and doing other camp activities. He also enjoyed spending time at his cabin on the river, golfing with his wife and friends, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Karen Beckert of Burlington; three nieces: Kara (Todd) Reyes of Burlington, Kendra (Jamie) Huntington of Mediapolis, and Becky (Kory) Fillmore of Burlington; four great-nieces: Kassidy, Katlyn, Jemma, Keatyn; three great-nephews: Kristian, Kobe, Koltin; and special friend, Susy Parrish of Burlington.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Kory Fillmore.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
Per his wishes, there will be no services at this time. Inurnment will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery later this spring.
