Obituary
Joan Kathleen Hertzler, 90, of Burlington, died Monday, February 8, 2021, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.
Born May 19, 1930, in West Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward Gerome Elliott and Erma Helen Scheu. On November 8, 1953, at First United Presbyterian Church in Burlington, she married Tom H. Hertzler. He died on July 1, 1985.
Joan was a homemaker.
She was a 1947 graduate of Burlington High School.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women and co-founder of The Prayer Chain along with P.E.O., and Kings Daughters. She was very involved in the church in may ways and enjoyed helping in the kitchen with luncheons and other events. She enjoyed playing bridge and canasta and gardening.
Survivors include two sisters, Nancy McCullough of Swisher and Mary Haberichter of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Robert Elliott, and two sisters, Donna Hallbick and Muriel Ellison.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
The memorial service for Joan will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church (available via live-stream at https://youtu.be/dmwLn6-3_H8 and later on First Presbyterian Church and Prugh Funeral Service websites) with Rev. Deb Kinney officiating and Randy Webster as organist. A catered luncheon will be served at the church following the service. Internment will be in Aspen Grove following the luncheon.
A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church.
