Martha Marie Hancock, 87, of Burlington, died at 7:44 PM Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born November 18, 1932, in Gladstone, IL, she was the daughter of Harvey Walker and Veda Elnora Headley Jones.On May 14, 1952 she married Howard Nixon, he preceded her in death. On April 21, 1957, she married Donald Hancock in Mediapolis.
Martha was a homemaker, librarian, and health aide.
After attending three high schools she graduated as the Valedictorian from Mediapolis High School in 1951.
She loved her family. She enjoyed sewing, Elvis Presley, sweets, cardinals and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include husband; three sons, Stephen Nixon of Mediapolis, David (Sylvia) Hancock of Oldsmar, FL, James (Shirley) Hancock of New London; one daughter, Diana (Alan) Wolkenhauer of League City, TX; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elnora Reynolds of Burlington, Carol McCulley of Mount Pleasant, and Barbara Ruth of West Burlington; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins..
She was preceded in death by her first husband Howard Nixon, four brothers, Eugene, Thomas, George, Bruce, and one infant sister.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, February 17, 2020 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Martha will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Dodds officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
