Obituary
Nathan Michael Lerud, 33, of Macomb, IL, formerly of Burlington, died Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born March 29, 1987, in Burlington.
Nathan graduated from Burlington High School in 2005 and immediately went to Fort Sill, OK to complete his training for the U.S. Army. He then served a tour of 14 months in Iraq. During his career in the Army he was stationed in Fort Hood, TX and Fort Collins. CO. Afterwards he attended SCC and Western Illinois University.
He liked working out, being outdoors, fishing, skiing and boating. Nathan loved listening to all different kinds of music. He liked to play board games, especially Monopoly and Scrabble. He was a writer, and wrote many stories and screenplays. One of his favorite places was Colorado and he greatly enjoyed his time stationed there for the Army. Nathan was always very generous and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his mother, Tamara (Brent) Levinson of Burlington; father, Donald Lerud of Burlington; two brothers, Nick (Chelsea) Lerud of Burlington and Nathan Smith of Redfield, AR; step-brother, Bradley Levinson of Burlington; nieces and nephews: Levi Lerud, Ali, Alexis, and Autumn Smith; four aunts: Sandy Shipley, Heidi Brown, DeAnna Lerud and Jessica Birlson; uncle, Joshua Birlson; maternal grandfather, Duane Sourwine of Burlington; maternal grandmother, Terrie (Tim) Birlson of Springdale, AR; paternal grandmother, DiAnne Lerud-Chubb of Burlington; paternal grandfather, David Lerud of Burlington; and his step-grandmother, Kay Levinson of Sperry.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal great-grandparents and maternal step-grandfather.
Family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Saturday, May 30, 2020, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home
The funeral service for Mr. Lerud will be 10:00 AM Saturday, May 30, 2020, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
