Obituary
Robert Onie Murry, 79, of Burlington, died at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born Feb. 5, 1921, in Burlington, he was the son of Onie and Goldie Dull Murry. He married Betty Seiberling on Aug. 19, 1972, in Burlington. Mr. Murry was a graduate of Burlington High School and Burlington Junior College, and also attended Grinnell College. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving as a staff sergeant in five foreign countries. He worked as a mechanical engineer for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, and retired in 1972 from Continental Telephone. He was a lifelong resident of Burlington. He was a member of Grace United Methodisst Church. He was an avid painter, fluent with all painting mediums, and was a railroad buff. He designed and built the stone arch bridge on his property on North Gear Avenue. He is survived by his wife and one sister, Ethelyn Peterson of Burlington. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Eicher-Sheagren Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. The graveside funeral service for Mr. Murry will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Trevor Davis officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by VFW Posts 10102 and 9162. Memorials have been established for Grace United Methodist Church and Des Moines County Humane Society.
