Obituary
Odetta R. Hockett, 88, of Columbia, MO, died at 1:45 pm Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at Lenoir Woods Nursing Facility.
Born March 21, 1932, in Dodgeville, IA, she was the youngest of six children of Harvey and Katherine Sutcliffe Siefken. On July 15, 1950 she married the love of her life, Dale Hockett in Dodgeville, IA.
Odetta began her working career at Sylvania and later joined Champion Spark Plug. However, the majority of her working years were in the grocery business. Beginning with Giant Foods, Aldi, and in 1979 she joined HyVee where she retired in 1994, two years after Dale’s retirement from GE. Being a busybody all her life, stay-at-home retirement wasn’t an option. She continued to work numerous years at Home Caring, until Dale’s health began to fail.
She was a member of SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington. Her devotion to her husband, Dale, was second only to her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Odetta was a servant. She loved to cook and serve people. Some of her well remembered foods: cookies of all varieties, pies, buns, chicken and tuna salads, and potato balls. She also enjoyed a good beer and red wine. Her favorite vacation spot was the cottage of her sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Ervin Panther, in Hayward, WI.
Survivors include her son, David (Sherri) Hockett of Columbia, MO; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Zachary (Laura) Hockett, Henry and Ivy; great grandchildren, Tiffany (Edward) Kim, Tanner Hockett.
She was preceded in death by her parents, all five siblings, and her husband, Dale.
A Mass of Resurrection and Celebration of Life is planned for a later date in Burlington, IA.
