Virginia Mary McCartney, 101, formerly of Burlington, IA died at 1:51 PM, Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the Johnson Assisted Living in Carol Stream, IL.
Born July 21, 1920, in Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of Herbert F. and Vala G. Chambers Schwartz. On June 17, 1950, she married Hugh A McCartney in Burlington, Iowa. He died on May 6, 1977.
She was a graduate of Burlington High School. She later graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College and received her degree in education.
Virginia taught elementary education in the Burlington School District for over 18 years.
She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Molly A. (Larry) Klowden of Elmhurst, IL, and Jane V. (Cletus) Coughlin of Chesterfield, MO; three granddaughters; Carrie (Tom Behan) Coughlin of St. Louis, MO, Katherine (Jude) McKenna of Park Ridge, IL, Sarah (Matt) Kahovec of Elmhurst, IL; and three great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Helen Schwartz.
The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. McCartney will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Reverend Ryan Cosgrove officiating. Those wishing to attend the service can meet at the Prugh Funeral Service, Downtown prior to the service for a procession to the gravesite.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Trinity Lutheran Church.
