Obituary
Susan Mae Hellenthal, 81, of Burlington, died at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born October 7, 1935, in Alsey, IL, she was the daughter of Omer and Mildred Miller McNeece. On July 7th, 1984 she married Robert Hellenthal in West Burlington. Ms.Hellenthal was a graduate of Burlington Catholic High School. She retired after 24 years as a communications operator at I.A.A.P. under the Federal Civil Service. She was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church. Susan enjoyed cross-stitching, metal detecting, gardening, and flowers. Survivors include her husband, Robert; and half-brother, Thomas D. Watts of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her parents. The Mass of Christian Burial for Ms. Hellenthal will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 17th, at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. Bill Roush will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for St. Vincent De Paul.
