Dorothy Helen Durr, 101, of West Burlington died Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born July 21, 1917 in Minneapolis, MN, she was the daughter of Anthony and Martha (Yurek) Kalitowski. She married Everett E. Durr on April 12, 1945 in Frederick, MD. He preceded her in death on April 14, 2001.
Dorothy was a sergeant T-4 in the United Stated Army during WW II from 1943-1945, working in top secret security. Dorothy and Everett were married during their service time in the Army at Camp Detrick in Frederick, Maryland. She worked a short time as secretary to the county attorney and was a homemaker in Burlington.
She was of the Catholic faith.
Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, researching family genealogy, family gatherings and loved M&M candies.
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Vickie) Durr of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Ronald Durr and special friend Maggie Jennings of Mediapolis, IA; one daughter, Karen (Mike) Gorman of Fishers, IN; eight grandchildren, Tony (Ann) Durr of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Sarah (Brad) Schrader of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Dawn (Dean) Happel Of Lisbon, IA, Jan (Chris) Moehlman of Lisbon, IA, Erin (Tom) Miller of Burlington, IA, Justin Durr of West Burlington, Lindsey (Michael) Hartman of Florida, Kyle (Danielle) Gorman of Indiana; 27 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and good friend Donna Hartman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, two brothers, and granddaughter Erin.
The funeral for Mrs. Durr will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 15th, 2019, at Lunning Chapel. The Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
