Joyce Ann Burtalo, 89, of Burlington, died at 5:45 AM Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born September 22, 1932, in Burlington, IA, the sixth child of Charles and Frances Schindall. On December 13, 1948, she married the love of her life, William Sylvester Burtalo in Burlington. William passed away on May 4, 2011. He gave her 63 happy years and four children.
Joyce loved to paint in oil and loved art. She enjoyed gardening and grew many kinds of flowers. Joyce was a dog person and liked to bird watch. When Bill was alive, they loved to dance, camp, fish, and travel. They spent 13 years going to Texas for three months in the winter with their fifth wheel camper. Most of all, they loved to spend time with family.
Survivors include two daughters, Diana (Randy) Phillips of Burlington and Janet (Joel) Reighard of Burlington; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; sister-in-law, Barbra Schindall and her dear friends of over 50 years Shirley and Pete Miller.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Connie Stout; son, Terry "Bub" Burtalo; one grandson, Justin Burtalo; two brothers, Lavern and Carl Schindall; and three sisters, Evelyn Mahoney, Betty Houtz and Virginia Schindall.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Burtalo will be 11:00 AM Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Joyce's home.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
