Obituary

Dorothy Irene Long, 97, of Burlington, died at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Burlington Care Center in Burlington, Iowa.
Born December 13, 1921 in Burnside, IL, she was the daughter of Adam and Pauline Weinreich. On October 16, 1948 she married Robert Long. He died October 8, 1990.
Mrs. Long was a member of the West Burlington United Methodist Church for almost 60 years. She taught children Sunday school and enjoyed other church work.
Her husband was in the United States Army for 23 years. She spent 16 of those years with their three children traveling with him to Vienna, Austria, Japan, and different states.
She worked 21 years at IRC-TRW. She was a Brownie Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, gardening, and embroidery.
Survivors include two daughters, Melinda (Gary) Smith of Burlington, IA and Kathy (Larry) Moore of Beulah, CO; one son, Gary (Ann) Long of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, a great-grandson and two nephews.
The funeral service for Mrs. Long will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 9th at Lunning Chapel. Reverend Steven Parker and Reverend Elizabeth Bell will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at 12:30 p.m. at West Burlington United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m. Monday, July 8th at Lunning Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for West Burlington United Methodist Church.
