Roy Frederic Freitag "Ol' Roy" 93, of Mount Pleasant, died at 12:10 AM Thursday, January 21, 2021, at Savannah Heights in Mount Pleasant.
Born October 6, 1927, in Burlington, he was the son of Earl Bouquet and Edythe Bernice Lindberg Freitag. On June 7, 1949, he married Nancy Olivia Coates in Burlington. She later passed April 12, 2008.
He worked in the parts department for Hawkeye Motor Co. for over 20 years, and after semiretirement, spent some time working for HyVee and Walmart.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947.
He was an avid firearm enthusiast and lifetime member of the NRA. He was a member of the V.F.W. the American Legion, and the Eagles Club. He loved jazz, both to listen to and play. He played the tenor saxophone for the Top Hatters band.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Debbie) Freitag of Burlington, Rick (Lori) Freitag of Mediapolis, IA, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Peggy L. (Larry) Bailey of West Branch, IA, nieces; nephews; and great-nieces; and great-nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Lillian Taylor of Carman IL, and Laura Coates of Mediapolis, IA.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeremiah Freitag, one brother, Earl Bouquet Freitag and one sister, Wanda Jean Bouquet.
Due to the concerns regarding COVID-19, there will be a private family graveside at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the V.F.W.
