Joyce Lundeen Harris, 92 of Burlington, formerly of Key Largo, FL, died 7:13 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born February 23, 1928 in Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of Homer George and Lois (Gehring) Woodward. She married L. Dwain “Duke” Lundeen on February 10, 1951. He died November 12, 2004. She later married Donald L. Harris of Key Largo, FL.
Joyce was a graduate of Burlington Community High School and Southeast Community College. She was a Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) and was one of the founders of the Professional Secretaries Association in Burlington. She was the keynote speaker for many schools, business’s, and at the State Secretaries Association Convention. Joyce worked for many years at a job she loved as the secretary for the city managers and mayors for the City of Burlington, from which she retired on July 1, 1993. Not many people know that Joyce was instrumental in getting the Hudson Class S-4 Engine on Main Street brought to Burlington.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Burton United Methodist Church in Key Largo, FL.
Joyce was affiliated with the National Secretaries Association and a lifetime member of Key Largo Civic Club. She enjoyed square, swing, round and line dancing and lobster hunting with her husband Don. Joyce exercised all her life.
Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (George) Ricks of Eolia, MO, and Tina Carson of Burlington, IA; five grandchildren, Heidi (Nathan) Adams of Eolia, MO, Tyler (Julie) Ricks of Bowling Green, MO, Casey (Amanda) Smith of Dewitt, IA, Caleb (Katie) Smith of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Andrew Smith of Davenport, IA; ten great-grandchildren, Ava, Grant, Elise and Winston Adams, Nevaeh, Emily, Kayden, and Grayson Ricks, and Carter and Adrianna Smith; and a sister, Lucille Waggoner of Wyoming, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, “Duke” Lundeen; her husband, Don Harris; and her brother, Marvin Woodward.
The graveside funeral service and interment for Joyce will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2021 at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Pastor Nathan Adams from New Life Christian Church in Eolia, MO, will officiate.
A memorial has been established for the Key Largo Civic Club in Key Largo, FL.
