Helen S. Gerdner, 101, of Burlington, died at 11:50 PM Friday, May 6, 2022, at OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.
Born June 11, 1920, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Paul and Sarah (Richards) Smith. On November 4, 1939, she married Robert Henry Gerdner in Burlington. He died on January 23, 2012.
Helen and her husband were owners of Bob's Stagecoach Inn for 30 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Eagles Club and Women of the Moose. She enjoyed crocheting and watching TV.
Survivors include her son, Donald (Donna) Gerdner of Burlington; daughter, Marjorie Miller of Bloomington, IL; five grandchildren, Neal (Stacey) Gerdner, Ron (Tabitha) Gerdner, Christina Reese, Carrie (Eric) Fisher, Michael (Jennie) Miller; ten great-grandchildren, Austin Gerdner, Landon Gerdner, Katelynn Gerdner, Olivia Gerdner, Skylar Gerdner, Jordan Reese, Tyler Fisher, Zac Fisher, Everett Miller and Eli Miller; and two step great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband of 72 years, she was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Smith, son-in-law, Marvin Miller, and grandson-in-law, Robert Reese.
A private graveside committal service for Mrs. Gerdner will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
