Obituary
Karen Martin, 77, of Burlington, died at 9:15 AM Tuesday, May 4, 2021.
Born March 1, 1944, in Rockford, IL, she was the daughter of Charles Arthur and Dorothy Bloom Gardner. On February 2, 1963, she married Thomas Owen Martin in Burlington, Iowa. He passed on July 21, 2008.
Karen worked at Eagle's Grocery Store, for JB & D Siding and as a cook at the King's Daughters Retirement Home.
She was of Catholic faith and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. Karen enjoyed participating in many social clubs and was a member of the Red Hat Club, Bunco Club, and the Eagle's Club. She also played cards with a group of friends regularly and was on a bowling league for several years. When she wasn't playing cards with friends or going to the casino, she liked to garden, bake and cook, as well as going mushroom hunting. Karen loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities.
Survivors include her two sons, Marcus (Amy) Martin and Tracy (Jenell) Martin both of Burlington; six grandchildren, Ashley (Matthew) Grinell, Aric Martin, Anthony (Bethany) Martin, Trevor Martin, Taylor Martin, and Braden Martin; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Kevin Martin and brother, Keith Gardner.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Martin will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 7, 2021, at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Following the burial a celebration of life will be held at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 150.
A memorial has been established.
