Betty Lou Gantz, 86, of Ankeny, died at 8:09 PM, Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the UnityPoint Health - Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, IA.
Born April 10, 1934, in Fort Madison, IA, she was the daughter of Leslie Merrill and Opal Frances Drollinger Calhoun. On April 10, 1955, she married Donald M. Gantz in Fort Madison. He died July 16, 2002.
She worked for the Burlington Community Schools as an elementary school secretary for 25 years and retired in 1999.
She was a 1952 graduate of Fort Madison High School.
She attended Parkside First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen W. (Karen) Gantz and Robert D. (Susan) Gantz both of Ankeny; two grandchildren, Robert, and Scott Gantz; four great-grandchildren, Stormie, R.J., Mercedes,and Emma Gantz; one brother, Richard D. Calhoun of Kansas City, KS; one niece, Debra Ward; and one nephew, Richard Calhoun II.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and grandparents, and two nieces, Karen Lyon and Linda Deets.
The graveside service for Mrs. Gantz will be Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 11:30 AM at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Pastor Bill Price Officiating. Due to the concerns regarding COVID-19, masks and social distancing will be required.
A memorial has been established for Parkside First Baptist Church.
