Marilyn Kay Shamp, 81, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away July 25, 2020 at 12:45 a.m. at Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born June 29, 1939 in Revere, MO, where there was no running water or electricity to the house and it was 90 degrees in the shade that day. Marilyn was delivered by Dr. O’Connell and assisted by Geneva Thompson and was the beautiful baby girl of Lewis Clark and Alma (Walker) King. On December 14, 1958 she married Irl E. Shamp of Burlington, IA at the Revere, MO Community Church.
Marilyn graduated in 1957 at Revere High School serving as Vice President of her graduating class. She also played in the school band and on the basketball team.
Marilyn worked at Burlington Memorial Hospital, Burlington Medical Center and Great River Medical Center for 32 years and retiring as administrative secretary.
Marilyn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Blackhawk Unit #3 of the Burlington Police Auxiliary, past President of the Iowa State Policemen Auxiliary, and a member of the Eagles Club. She was a den mother with Pack 87 Cub Scouts, Sunday School teacher, active on committees and the church council of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother brought great joy to her life. She enjoyed cooking big meals for her family gatherings, and attending her children and grandchildren’s events. Marilyn had fun with her card club the Sexy 6 and spending time with family and friends and cats Magic and Bella. She enjoyed the Wednesday morning Bible Study Group and walking along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean in Florida picking up Seashells and searching for Sea Glass.
Survivors include three sons; Sean (Julie) Shamp, and Rick (Kelly) Shamp both of Burlington, Brad Shamp of Lantana, Florida, and foster son Terry (Darlene) Miller of Roselle, Illinois; four grandchildren, Lucas Shamp of Boulder, CO, Justin Shamp of Seymour, Connecticut, Mackahlan Shamp of Burlington, and Lacee (Joe) Nydle of Des Moines; great granddaughter, Navee Nydle of Des Moines; one niece and two nephews; great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and brother Dennis King.
The funeral memorial service for Mrs. Shamp will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 1st, 2020 at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Ryan Cosgrove officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Friday, July 31st, where the family will receive friends 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Lunning Chapel.
A memorial has been established for Trinity Lutheran Church.
