Obituary
Robert "Bob" Schultz, 82 of Burlington, died at 9:30 AM Saturday, December 15, 2018, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born June 25, 1936, in Burlington, he was the son of Harry Schultz and Meta Laue Schultz.
Bob married Emilie Jane Cook on June 21, 1959 in Burlington. They enjoyed time in Hawaii together while he was stationed at Oahu for fifteen months before settling in Burlington in 1961. They had been married 56 years when she passed away in 2015.
He graduated from Burlington High School in 1954 and Burlington Community College in 1956. He attended University of Iowa before being drafted in the U.S. Army in 1959. After his military service he worked for General Electric for thirty-four years, both in Philadelphia and West Burlington, beginning on the factory floor and retiring in 1995 as inventory purchaser. He then began his second career for eighteen years as a math tutor in the STEP program at Southeastern retiring in 2014.
He was a lifelong active member of the First United Church of Christ, ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out), Burlington Library Memoir Writing Group, former member of Bike Burlington and rode on eight RAGBRAI Rides. He was an avid reader, and in earlier years enjoyed therapeutic hobbies such as stained glass, cross stitch, needle point, knitting, and calligraphy. He was most proud of his restoration project of their Victorian home on North 5th Street where they lived for thirty-two years.
Survivors include one son, Randy (Nancy) Schultz of Lee's Summit, MO; two daughters, Robin (Tom) Nelson and Rita Hartman, both of Burlington; three grandsons, Nicholas Schultz of Iowa City, Samuel Hartman of Des Moines, and Sherman Hartman of Ames; two granddaughters, Sarah (Dave) Burgus and Stella Hartman, both of Burlington; one sister, Mary Ludlow of Algoma, WI.
He was preceded in death by his wife Emilie, his parents, brother H. Wayne Schultz, and sister Lois (Ed) Nelson.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Schultz will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at First United Church of Christ with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the Fellowship Hall at First United Church of Christ following the burial.
A memorial has been established for First United Church of Christ.
