Obituary
Wilbur "Gene" Mesecher, 92, of Burlington, died at 8:00 PM Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at the Savannah Heights in Mount Pleasant.
Born April 7, 1928, in Terre Haute, IL, he was the son of William and Elizabeth Lou Williams Mesecher. On January 27, 1956, he married Margaret E. Shaw in Burlington, IA. She passed October 30, 2009.
He owned and operated Mesecher's Heating & Air Conditioning with his wife for over 40 years.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from February 16, 1946 until December 1, 1947. He was a member of the VFW, Sons of the American Revolution, and American Legion.
Survivors include his girlfriend, Betty Newkirk; one son, Alan E. Mesecher of Orange, TX; two daughters, Charlotte J. Blanchard of Ft. Edwards, NY, and Shirley A. Bodnar of Skylerville, NY; one step-son, George H. (Susan) Moehle of Burlington; several grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Hartsock of Plano,TX and a host of nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Phil, Ronald, Newt, Roy Andy and Charles; and three sisters Josephine, Minnie, and Vera Mae.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
The funeral service for Gene will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 6, 2020, at Prugh's Chapel Downtown with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
