Obituary
Todd Hunt Wiedemeier from Sedalia, CO, son of Daniel and Ruth Hunt Wiedemeier, was born June 2, 1964 at Davenport, IA. He passed away on July 13, 2017 in Denver, CO after a brief illness.
At age 13, Todd's family moved to Denver where his love of the mountains anchored him to the area and kindled his interest in geology. He lived to learn and by age 9 said he would be a scientist. He credited his love for geology to a specific church group camping trip where he felt God's presence which piqued his insatiable curiosity in all things scientific. Todd was faithful in his love for God and was proud he was the grandson of a pastor, Dr. George Hunt, and frequently shared memories of his teachings.
Todd graduated from Colorado State University and received a Master's Degree in geology at Wichita State University. He then embarked on a prestigious career in environmental engineering and pioneered in his field of bioremediation of water and soil contamination. His innovative approach remains today as a standard reference for the industry. He began as technical director at Parsons Engineering Science, Inc., and then his entrepreneurial aspirations led him to start his own company "THWiedemeier and Associates Inc.". Todd published over 150 technical papers and training manuals and lectured abroad. His book "Natural Attenuation of Fuels and Chlorinated Solvents in the Subsurface" was published in 1999 and it continues to be a leading source of reference in his field.
Todd was a man of many talents and could fix or build most anything. He was a high energy guy, loved to sing, play the violin and guitar, and never shied from voicing his opinions. Satisfying his yen to fly, he soloed after a few lessons. Vacation time found him fishing with his dad or cousins at the Wiedemeier Mississippi River cabin where he usually hooked the largest catfish. Hiking with his beloved dogs, rock climbing and rappelling, cycling, and backpacking appeased his appetite for adventure. Todd had a generous heart and would go out of his way to help, especially young people. He funded the music lessons for a promising young violin student.
Left to honor his memory are father Dan Wiedemeier and stepmother Marcia Wiedemeier of Burlington, mother Ruth Wiedemeier of Greenwood Village, CO, brother Bradford and sister Jane Hill of Colorado, 2 nieces, 1 nephew, Aunt Delores and Uncle Dennis Harken, 3 cousins, special friends and professional colleagues. Todd's spirit remains in the hearts of those privileged to know him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. August 4, 2017 at Drinkwine Chapel, Littleton, CO. A memorial gift may be donated to Denver Dumb Friends League at http://www.ddfl.org/ or https://hungryformusic.org/ in Todd's name.
