Derby Dallam Thompson, 93, of Burliington, died at 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at Burlington Medical Center. Born March 9, 1906, in Burlington, he was the son of Dallam G. and Mary Derby Thompson. He married Dorothy M. Wilson on Sept. 5, 1928. She died May 13, 1980. He married Myrtle Burman in September, 1980. She died in October 1995. Mr. Thompson was the founder of Atlas Warehouse, and the owner of Acres-Blackmar Printing Co. He served on the Iowa Highway Commission for 10 years and was chairman for four of those years. During his tenure, the freeway corridor was constructed through Burlington. He was chairman of the Des Moines County Ration Board during World War II. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Burlington Golf Club, and Crystal Lake Club, and was past president of the Burlington Rotary Club. Survivors include three sons, James W. Thompson of Carlton, Ga., Dallam G. Thompson of Burlington, and Derby Thompson of Albany, Ga.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one granddaughter. There will be no formal visitation. The body has been cremated. The memorial service for Mr. Thompson will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Forrest Krummel officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church.
