Mrs. John Bishop, 62, wife of the retired co-publisher of The HawkEye, died Wednesday, April 8, at 6 am in Memorial hospital. She had been hospitalized since March 21.
The former Maurine Cherry, she was born June 28, 1907, in Pittsburg, Kan., the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Griffith Cherry. May 25, 1929, she married John Bishop at Pittsburg.
The Bishops came to Burlington 25 years ago when he became advertising manager of the Hawk-Eye Gazette. He later was business manager before becoming general manager and co-publisher. He retired on Oct. 1, 1968.
Mrs. Bishop was a member of First Presbyterian church; PEO, King’s Daughters, and the Alumnae of Linwood College. The Bishops’ home is at 1003 N. 4th St.
Surviving; Her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Henry Anderson of Chepachet, RI., and two grandchildren.
Services; Friday at 3:30 pm; Prugh’s Chapel; Rev. Roscoe Wolvington; Aspen Grove.
