Cloud Hughes "Jupe" Thompson, Jr., 83, of Burlington, died at GRMC Klein Center, on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at 10:20 p.m. Born on August 15, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Cloud Hughes and Thelma Blanche Mayfield Thompson. He married Joanne F. Florang on February 4, 1950, in Burlington, Iowa. She died on September 13, 2001. "Jupe" served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was owner/ president of Burlington Basket Company. He was a member of the Burlington Golf Club, and Crystal Lake Club. He was a member of First Congregational Church. He is survived by three sons, David Thompson, Rick (Kathie) Thompson, and Jason (Dawn) Thompson, all of Burlington, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Diana Thompson of Burlington; and one sister, Sandi Philips of Ames, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne; one son, Steven; and his parents. Funeral services for Cloud Hughes "Jupe" Thompson, Jr. will be held on Monday, July 18, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Prugh's Chapel, Burlington, Iowa. Pastor Jim Francisco will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. in Prugh's Chapel. A memorial has been established for First Congregational Church.
