Verna May Bischoff, 83, of Burlington, died at 6:02 pm Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at OSF St. Francis Continuation Care Center, Burlington.
Born Nov. 10, 1914, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Emil and Effie Bistlehorst Horn. On Nov. 5, 1937, she married Paul Arthur Bischoff in Sparrows Point, Md.
Mrs. Bischoff was a 1933 graduate of Burlington High School. She was a homemaker and a beautician in Davenport & Fort Madison for 10 years. She then owned and operated Verna’s Riverview Beauty shop at her home. She retired in 1965.
She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ of Burlington, secretary of the church Consistory, member of the Christian Service Church Circle, a long-time member of Ruth’s Circle of King’s Daughters, and was a volunteer for RSVP.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Patricia Latty of Burlington and Nancy Broers of Mason City; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Russell Horn of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Alice McClelland of Baltimore, Md., Doris Hill of Lafayette, Ind., and Janet Kearns of Clearwater, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be after 8 am today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm.
The funeral for Mrs. Bischoff will be at 10 am Saturday at Zion United Church of Christ with the Rev; Gary Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington.
Memorials have been established to Zion United Church of Christ and Alzheimer’s Association.
