Mr. Ivan K. "Kenny" Thomas, 80, of rural Gladstone, Illinois died at 4:22 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born July 22, 1935 in Macomb, Illinois, he was the son of Ivan A. and Luella (Bowes) Thomas. On March 24, 1957 he married Phillis Huffman in West Burlington.
Mr. Thomas was a graduate of Burlington High School and Des Moines Barber College. He served four years in the Navy Reserves. He was a pipefitter working for Union Local 212 for 46 years and retiring in 1998.
Mr. Thomas enjoyed bowling, gardening, fishing, puzzles and reading. He was active with the Boy Scouts. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Phillis Thomas of Gladstone, three daughters, Marguerite (Mark) Fehseke of Corydon, Debbie (Mike) Bailey of Oquawka, Illinois and Susan (Kirk) Swanson of West Burlington; one son, Andrew Thomas of Burlington; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one brother, Richard (Vera) Thomas of Hopkins, South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Kenny Thomas.
The funeral service for Mr. Thomas will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 11th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. David Mixon officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
