Mr. Charles Everett Thomas, 89, of Burlington, died at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born July 14, 1923 in Yarmouth, he was the son of Leroy and Letha Vandermark Thomas. On November 8, 1947 he married Margery C. Miller in Burlington. Mr. Thomas was a self-employed contractor for 50 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Carpenters Union, Des Moines County Saddle Club and Circle Square B Square Dance Club. He enjoyed woodworking, raising cattle, gardening and horse racing. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Margery C. Thomas of Burlington; one daughter, Barbara (Jon) Campbell of Danville; one son, Richard (Barbara) Thomas of Los Angeles, California; four grandchildren, Matt (Lindsay) Campbell of Lakeville, Minnesota, Ben (Brooke) Campbell of Burlington, Kristine (Scott) McManus of Miles City, Montana and Amy Thomas of Los Angeles, California; five great grandchildren, Trevor McManus, Morgan McManus, Daelyn Campbell, Elana Campbell and Conner Campbell; four sisters, Genieve Connor of Mt. Pleasant, Verla Canfield of Phoenix, Arizona, Evelyn Walker of Muscatine and Mary Alice McClaskey of Keokuk; and three brothers, David Surrel Thomas of New London, Marvin Thomas of Letts and Larry Thomas of Wichita, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and John Thomas. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, October 28th, at Lunning Chapel. The funeral service for Mr. Thomas will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 29th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
