Nona Margaret Thistlethwaite, 92, of Burlington died at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007. at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born August 6, 1914, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Julius and Nona Henrietta Louise Chubb Binder. On June 20, 1946, she married Robert Thistlethwaite in Burlington. He died May 15, 2006. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1932. She was a 1935 Graduate of Burlington Junior College. Nona worked as a secretary and bookkeeper with Chittenden and Eastman Office from 1934 to 1946. She worked for the City of Burlington in City Hall, in the Clerk's, Auditor's and Treasurer's offices from April 20, 1964 until November 29, 1972. In July of 1973, she went to work for Cray, Walter, Cray, Loeschen and Goddard Attorneys, retiring in September of 1977. She was a member of the First Prebyterian Church. Nona was a good cook and was especially proud of her angel food cakes. Sewing was a favorite pasttime. She made clothing and sewed most of the Christman gifts she gave each year. She and her husband had a pet squirrel named May bell, who was a frequent visitor to their home for ten years. They enjoyed 60 years of married life together. They traveled extensively, including a three month tour of Europe, trips to Hawaii and Tahiti, and numeorus cross country trips camping. After Bob died, Nona made her home at Bickford Cottage and enjoyed many activities and new friends while there. Survivors include two sons, David (Carol) Thistlethwaite of San Francisco and Philip (Catherine) Thistlethwaite of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Betty Welch. Rev. Bill Salzmann will officiate, with burial in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been establised for the First Presbyterian Church.
