Steven Russell Teel, 48, of Fort Madison, died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Born Aug. 13, 1958, in Port Hueneme, Calif., he was the son of Bobby E. and Alice Anne Bretz Teel. On Oct. 4, 1980, he married Laurie Beth Polson. They later divorced. Mr. Teel worked at J.C. Penney's, was a welder at J.I. Case and a guard at Iowa State Penitentiary since 1982. He was a 1977 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a member of Burlington Model Airplane Club and enjoyed fishing, woodworking and visiting with friends. Survivors include one son, Christopher Teel of rural Burlington; one granddaughter; his mother of Burlington; two brothers, Dennis Teel of Wapello and Dana Teel of San Diego; one sister, Debra Garcia of Burlington; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Teel will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Trevor Davis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for his granddaughter, Breanna Teel's, education.
