Obituary
Daniel George “Birky” Birkenstock, 63, of Leesburg, Florida, and formerly of Burlington, Iowa, Tomahawk, Wisconsin, and Racine, Wisconsin, died on Friday, May 7, 2004, at Sylvan Grove Hospital, Jackson, Georgia.
Born September 18, 1940, in Burlington, he was the son of Roy Birkenstock and Marjorie Holstein Birkenstock Reif. He married Mary Johnson.
Mr. Birkenstock worked for 30 years at JI Case Co. After retiring, he became a self-employed truck driver.
He was a 1959 graduate of Sperry High School. He was a member of Honda Gold Wing Riders and enjoyed golfing, traveling, and NASCAR.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Leesburg; two sons, Steven Birkenstock of Texarkana, Texas, and Michael Birkenstock of Hooks, Texas; one daughter, Nancy Birkenstock of Racine, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Ross, and Hannah Birkenstock; and two brothers, Tom Birkenstock of Dodgeville, Iowa and Dick Birkenstock of San Marcus, California.
His parents and one brother preceded him in death. Visitation will start at noon today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
The funeral service for Mr. Birkenstock will be Thursday at 10:00 am in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. John Gaulke officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Dodgeville following the Committal Service. A memorial has been established.
