Obituary
Ronald Gene Swedenburg passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the First Assembly of God Church in Indianola with burial to follow in the Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa with full military rites. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, the evening prior at the First Assembly of God Church. Ronald was born on December 20, 1928 in Danville, Iowa to George Swedenburg and Lola Mae Hanna. Ron was Honorably Discharged from the US Navy on September 24, 1951 and retired from US West Telephone in 1994. Ron was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Masonic Lodge and the First Assembly of God Church in Indianola. Ron was well known around Indianola as 'Mr. fix it' for his ability to fix or make practically anything. Ron was also known for his musical ability, playing trumpet at church and for every New Years Eve heralding in the (new year). He also sang in various churches throughout the community as well as the church choir and having his own Gospel group(s). He is survived by his wife Irene, a son Jeff Swedenburg of Indianola; daughters Lori(Brett) Connelly of Des Moines and Charisse(Charlie) Ozella of Indianola; sister Serena Streeter of Columbia Falls, Montana; grandchildren Michelle Morgan, Tyler Connelly, Brittany Bretl, Mark Ozella and Mikaela Ozella; great grandchildren Michael Morgan, Tripp Connelly and Jude Bretl. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Phyllis and 3 brothers; Darrell, Robert and Gary.
