Helen Swarts, 93, formerly of Burlington, died Thursday, December 17, 2009, at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab in Mediapolis. Born October 22, 1916, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edith Rusch. On November 19, 1934, she married Rolland C. Swarts in Kahoka, MO. He died September 25, 1975. Mrs. Swarts worked at Sylvania, and in production at the Glove Factory. She was a director at the Steamboat Center assisting with meals. She was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church, and Eagles Auxiliary No. 150, where she held numerous offices and was very active. She was Auxiliary Mother from June 1999 to June 2000. She enjoyed playing bingo. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Rukgaber of West Burlington; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Visitatin with family present will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel. The funeral for Mrs. Swarts will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Bruce DeRammelaere officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
