Obituary
Donald Swanson, 78, of Muscatine died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Unity Hospital in Muscatine. Funeral services will be Wednesday March 8, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fellowship United Methodist Church High Prairie Center. Reverend John Gimmy of the Peace Chapel will officiate. Casketbearers will be Dick Thacker, Roy Johnson, Harold Swanson, Roger Swanson, Dale Johnson, Wayne Caparoon, and Ron Spurgeon. Honorary Casketbearers will be Grandchildren David, Tom, Talon, Nichole, Jessica and Tara. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington with Military Rites by the combined units of the VFW Post #1565 and the American Legion Post #27. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the West Hill United Methodist Church in Burlington, IA.. Visitation for Donald will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. Memorials may be directored to the American Legion or the High Prairie Memorial Fund in Donald?s name. Sympathy notes may be left for the Swanson family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. Donald was born November 29, 1927 in Sperry, Iowa the son of Raymond and Frieda (Buescher) Swanson. On August 7, 1954 Donald was united in marriage to Virginia Ross in Winfield, IA. Donald was a member of the Fellowship United Methodist Church High Prairie Center in which he was treasurer and financial secretary for 27 years. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. Donald was also a member of the American Legion Post #27, B. P.O. Elk Lodge #304, Moose Lodge, Geode A. Bagos Campers, and Family Campers and RVers. He was a lifetime member of the Phi Theta Phi International Commerce Fraternity. He and his wife won the Iowa Governor's Award for Volunteers. Donald was also a member of the Ragers Rhonda Vincent fan club. Donald was employed as an accountant at J.I. Case of Burlington, Poole Transfer, and Daufeldt Transport. Donald will be deeply missed by his wife Virginia of Muscatine; two sons, Dan A. Swanson and his wife Jane Ann of Moscow and Ken A. Swanson and his wife Penny of Council Bluffs, IA; 8 grandchildren David, Tom, Terry, Nichole, Jessica, Cassie, Sammi Jo, Tara and 2 great-grandchildren Talon and Davin; one sister Ethel Johnson and her husband Dale of Danville, IA; two brothers, Harold Swanson and his wife Garnet of Burlington and Roger Swanson and his wife Kim of Lincoln NE; and many nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, and one great grandson, Chase Coss.
