Reta Alice Swank, 69, of Mediapolis, died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born February 14, 1940, in Liberty, IL, she was the daughter of Phinis and Ceacle Britt Davis. On November 19, 1950, she married Jerry Lee Swank. He died June 30, 1992. Mrs. Swank was a homemaker. She was self-employed in day care, and cooked at Oak Lane Nursing Home. She graduated from Aledo High School. She was a member of Raritan Baptist Church. She was a fan of Garfield the Cat. She enjoyed reading, gardening, growing flowers, and crocheting. Survivors include one daughter, Debra Wirt of Burlington; two sons, Randel Swank of West Burlington, and Rodney Swank of Oakville; four sisters, Mable Magner of Media, IL, Millie Winchel and Edie Penrod both of Burlington, and Caryl Eastman of Warner Robins, GA; two brothers, Raymond Davis of LaBelle, MO, and Everett Davis of Elko, NV; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and three sisters. The family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington. The funeral for Mrs. Swank will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Prugh's Chapel. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established.
