Esther Sophie Binder, 99, of Burlington, formerly of West Burlington, died at 10:35 am Tuesday, April 22. 1997, at St. Francis Care Center.
Born Aug. 12, 1897, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Jacob and Caroline Heckenberg Wertz. On June 16, 1920, she married Walter August Binder in Burlington. He died April 19, 1982.
Mrs. Binder was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Burlington and the Homemaker club of the church.
Survivors include one son, Richard Binder of Burlington; one daughter, Bonnie Carpenter of Wilmington, Del.; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and six sisters.
There will be no family visitation. The graveside funeral for Mrs. Binder will be at 1:30 pm Friday in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Barrie Tritle officiating.
