Everett Warren Summers, 80, of Burlington, died at 7 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at Burlington Medical Center. Born January 23, 1919, at Kilbourne, Ill., he was the son of Wallie Bell and Ethel V. Goben Summers. He was a 1938 graduate of Newton Bateman Memorial High School in Jacksonville, Ill. He was an expert athlete in high school, placing first in high jump and javelin at track meets. He was a fleet-footed left halfback in football, and was a top bowler in Burlington senior leagues. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. Mr. Summers worked at the Burlington Freight House, and retired as a typesetter from The Hawk Eye in 1983 with 35 years of service. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Lynda and Barbara; two brothers, Wilford Summers of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kenneth Summers of Woodland Park, Colo.; and two sisters, Eileen LaRussa of Walnut, Ill., and Juanita Colton of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where the familly will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday. The funeral for Mr. Summers will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Forrest Krummel officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
