Margaret Marie Stone, 71, of Burlington, Iowa, died at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa, on Thursday, March 20, 2014.
Born on March 11, 1943 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Homer A. and Sallie L. Vaughn Cheers. She married Minor A. Stone in Burlington, Iowa; they later divorced.
Margaret worked as an electrical designer at General Electric. She enjoyed gardening, family events, church activities and attending civic music. She sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school and was a trustee. She was on a variety of boards including the Community Health Center Board and was a teachers aid for Area 16. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, Full Gospel Fellowship.
She is survived by one son, Michael Allen Stone of Chicago, Illinois; one brother, Homer L. (Frances) Cheers of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters, Helen Mae Cheers Miller of Los Angeles, California and Candra Jo Cheers Davis of Bakersfield, California; one daughter-in-law, Consuelo Twillie Stone of Elmhurst, Illinois: three granddaughters, Crystal-Jewel, Copper-Jade, Coral-Jessica Stone of Elmhurst, Illinois; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Mark Ander Stone.
Funeral services for Margaret Stone will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Union Baptist Church, Full Gospel Fellowship, Burlington, Iowa. Rev. Lawrence Manson will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
A memorial has been established for Union Baptist Church, Full Gospel Fellowship.
Friends may call at Prugh’s Chapel on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. to pay their respect.
