Obituary
Roland "Ron" Stewart, 81, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, IA. He was born in Albia, IA on February 10, 1931, the son of Amos Eugene and Lois Margaret Gray Stewart. On April 13, 1952 he married Bonnie Irene Goudy in Ottumwa, IA. She died on March 31, 2012. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1954, seeing action in the Korean Conflict with the 424th Field Artillery. Ron was a route manager for the Des Moines Register in Ottumwa and Atlantic, IA, a sales manager for Midwest Biscuit Company and in retirement a delivery driver for Deery Brothers. He was past president of the Burlington and Ottumwa Evening Lions Club; he was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Southeast Iowa Shrine Club. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family and friends. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Burlington and the Church of the Brethren in Ottumwa. He is survived by one daughter, Linda (Jim) Snowbarger of Marshalltown, Iowa; two sons, William Stewart of Aberdeen, Washington and Kevin (Diane) Stewart of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two sisters, Minnie Ashmore of Gardner, KS and Lois (Jim) Rossie of Conway, AR; four brothers, Eugene (Reverta) Stewart, Carl Stewart and Ray (Kay) Stewart all of Albia, IA and Henry (Jane) Stewart of Council Bluffs, IA; six grandchildren, Angela, Jason, Diana, Ryan, Michael and Jennifer; five great grandsons, Blake, Chandler, Alex, Rylan and Hayden, one great granddaughter, Emmalyn and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, one sister, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be held in the First Presbyterian Church, Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Deb Kinney will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Military Rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Memorials have been established for the First Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund and Great River Hospice.
