Robert "Bob" W. Stewart, 90, of West Burlington, died at 10:53 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2010, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born October 1, 1919, in Burlington, he was the son of Harry E. and Florence Hunger Stewart. On July 21, 1948, he married Geneva Belle Whitacre. She died August 10, 2001. Mr. Stewart worked 40 years as an engineer for CBQ Burlington Northern, retiring in 1981. He graduated from Burlington High School. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. He was a member of American Legion Post 52, Elks Club, Eagles Club, and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Davies of Wichita, Kan.; three sons, John Stewart of Lenexa, Kan., and David Stewart and Dale Stewart, both of West Burlington; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, at Lunning Chapel in Burlington. The body has been cremated. The memorial service for Mr. Stewart will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for the American Diabetes Association.
