Obituary

E. Louise Stewart, 89, died at 11:09 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Great River Medical Center-Klein Unit in Burlington. Born April 20, 1920, near Bonaparte, she was the daughter of Carl Stanley and Ruth Elizabeth VanNice Atherton. On June 1, 1941, she married James Newton Stewart in Mediapolis. Mrs. Stewart worked for 16 years in production at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, retiring in 1983. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served with the Presidents' Women's Club and as deacon. She enjoyed baking birthday cakes and cooking. Survivors include her husband of Danville; one son, Larry Stewart of Danville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Myrtle Hoeg of Wapello; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, her parents, two brothers and one sister. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Stewart will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Deb Miller-Kinney officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for First Presbyterian Church.
