Clinton H. Stewart, 78, of Galesburg, Ill., formerly of Burlington, died at 9:33 p.m. Friday, May 21, 1999, at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport. Born April 29, 1921, in DeKalb, Mo., he was the son of Spencer M. and Hanna Estella Nichols Stewart. On December 25, 1942, he married Arlene Ward in Kahoka, Mo. She preceded him in death. Mr. Stewart worked in the engineering department for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 22 years. He was a graduate of Fort Madison High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, with the rank of Warrant Officer Junior Grade. He was an active member of Colonial Baptist Church of Galesburg. He was a former member of West Burlington United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, James Ward Stewart of Galesburg, and Jon C. Stewart of Middleburg, Fla.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grand- children; and two sisters, Veda Gehley of Davenport, and Mary Esther Mosley of rural Wisconsin. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister. Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. Monday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Stewart will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Donald Lunquist officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Colonial Baptist Church.
